Selection committee eyes accountant to contend for KPK post - Jakarta Post

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Sat, 06/11/2011 5:59 PM

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) selection committee says it is looking for an accountant to be in contention for the KPK chairman post.

"They [the candidates] don't have to have a background of law. Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas [former deputy chairman] had an accounting background. We are looking for a good accountant," selection committee member Rhenald Khasali said Saturday, as quoted by kompas.com..

He said the committee was finding it difficult to identify a reliable accountant who is willing to become the next KPK chairman.

"It seems like many of them are scared. Accountants are having too much fun making money," said Khasali, who is also a University of Indonesia lecturer.

The committee has so far contacted anti-corruption activists, law enforcers and academicians for the position.

According to the selection committee meeting, there are about 30 names on the list of people the committee will look to approach.

As of Wednesday June 8, 31 people had registered, but apparently only nine had submitted their complete credentials.

The registration for the KPK chairman position will be closed on June 20. It is targeted that a new chief would be installed on December 17.(awd)
