Accountant takes reins at Stratford's council - Stuff

JAY BOREHAM

Stratford's first female chief executive has taken the reins at the district council.

Mayor Neil Volzke formally welcomed Sue Davidson into her new role at a meeting of the council yesterday.

Mr Volzke said it it was good to have a person of Ms Davidson's knowledge and experience in the role.

"It is the beginning of an era ? the first female CEO that Stratford council has had," he said.

As a chartered accountant, Ms Davidson has built up a strong finance background.

She worked for Deloitte in Christchurch for six years and was the general manager for Trustbank for 10 years.

Ms Davidson already has experience in her role, having been chief executive for Banks Peninsula District Council from 2003 till 2006. "For the last 4 1/2 years I have been with Morrison Low as a consultant working on strategic and financial projects at a lot of the councils in New Zealand and also some in Australia," she said.

Ms Davidson said was looking forward to the challenge of working with staff and councillors at the council.

"And getting out into the community and finding out what they want to do."
