The people of Tika village in Abaji local government area of the FCT are still in great shock as they mourn the death of Mr. Micah Gyere Samuel, the late Chief Accountant of Kwali Area Council who was found dead in an abandoned well on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in his village, prompting rumours of suicide. When Weekly Trust visited the home of the deceased in Tika village, it was learnt that he has been the Account Officer since 2006.

One of the brothers of the deceased, Mr. Samson Samuel, said his late brother never had any grievances with anybody. "I am the one staying with him at his Kuje residence together with his four kids, as his wife died some years back after a brief illness. Everything was fine with him," he explained.

Mr. Samson said his late brother actually had a fever and decided he would use the Sallah break to visit his aged parents in the village so that they can provide him with some herbs to cure his fever with. After his visit, his parents came back with him. Samson said he woke up the next morning around 4.00am to check on his elder brother to know how he was feeling and he asked him to go back to sleep.. "Our father came calling around 6.00am to know how he was feeling that morning, but to everybody's surprise, he was nowhere to be found around the house but we found one of his slippers in the bathroom," Samson explained.

Samson said, with the rest of the family, looked for their elder brother around the village until about 2.00pm when they found his dead body inside an abandoned well. The body was covered with bruises which he may have obtained when he fell into the well, adding that there were no traces of strangulation on the neck or even a stab wound. "It is only God that really knows what actually happened, as people already think he committed suicide, but I don't believe so," he said.

He said "before a person begins to think of killing himself, he must have a very serious problem somewhere or even secret, but in the case of my late brother, he was fine with everybody, he only had fever, so we can't really say if he was pushed into the well or he fell himself, it is only God that knows, that is why we have left everything to God to reveal the whole truth behind his death," he said.

While describing the kind of person his late brother was, Samson said he was a man of peace, full of life and always happy. "In fact, I have been living with him for more than 15 years, even after he lost his wife," he said.

Joy Micah, 19, eldest child of the late accountant, has just completed her secondary education from the Federal Government College, Kwali, and is presently waiting for university admission. She recalled the last moments she had with her dad. She said a day before he travelled to the village, he asked her to pack up his bags and not to include the drugs which were given to him at the hospital as he was going to be taking herbs when he gets to the village. After that, they got into a conversation.

"While we were talking, he fell asleep and I decided to let him be but as I was about stepping out of the room, he called me back to continue the conversation, which I did until he finally slept off," she said.

Joy tearfully said she wasn't in the house the next morning when her dad left for the village because she went to register her younger sister's sim card at a cyber caf. She would later receive a call about her father's death. She also said her late father didn't commit suicide.

Joy also told Weekly Trust that she has the interest to study Computer Science at the FUT Minna, God is in control. While at the burial, Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Mr. Joseph Shazin promised to sponsor Joy and her siblings to any level of education they wish. Micah Samuel was buried according to Christian rites in his home town at Tika village.
